Nebraska Unified Rules -2005

ALL COMPLAINTS MUST BE VOICED TO THE OFFICIALS AT THE PIT MEETING.
Note: These are only the car preparation rules. Any additional local restrictions such as no profanity, size of number on doors, registration times, age of participants, releases, local track rules (drivers door hits, head on collisions, amount of time between hits., etc.), alcohol consumption, etc.. are the duty of the promoter, and should be included on a separate sheet of paper in addition to the rules.

General Rules

  1. Limited to passenger cars and station wagons. Imperials are allowed. No hearses, ambulances, 4 wheel drives, limos compact or foreign cars allowed. Full size cars only — no compacts except in compact derbies. No imperial subs under non-imperials. Sedagons not allowed.
  2. Seat belts must he functional and fastened securely to the floor of the car. A shoulder harness is not required.
  3. All glass, chrome, door handles, and any unsafe items must be removed from the car. This includes tail lights and plastic on the car. Clean these items out of the car completely!
  4. Automotive racing style helmets are required, no football helmets. Eye protection is highly recommended. Long sleeves and long pants REQUIRED for 2005. Fire suits (top) will be MANDATORY for 2006.
  5. Overflow tubes must point straight down.
  6. Fuel: No alcohol, unless pump gas ethanol. Electric fuel pumps allowed.
  7. Tire rule. No bigger than 6 inch rims, no split rims, no studded tires on rear. Implement tread
    o.k. Foam filled, solid, or double tires OK. Valve stem protectors OK, no rim reinforcements. No liquid filled tires. No spikes or paddles on rim. REMOVE ALL WHEEL WEIGHTS — INSIDE AND OUT. NO RIM SCREWS.

Body and Frame Rules

  1. Fenders and bumpers may be cut. You can bolt the fender back together with six (6) 3/8” bolts maximum. Washers on the bolt may only be 1“ diameter. No rewelding cut fenders on fresh cars.
  2. Door must be chained, wired, bolted or welded (exterior only) for safety. If chained, chain must be a minimum of 3/8”. 4” wide by 1/8” strap maximum material to weld over seams. 1/2” filler rod is max if round material is used.
  3. Trunk lids and wagon gates can he welded (exterior only), chained, wired, or bolted. No methods may go through or touch the frame. If you weld and bolt, only two ¾” all-thread bolt can be used on trunks with 5” x 5” washers maximum. All-thread bolt cannot go through frame. The use of all-thread is for sedans only.
  4. Hood must have two 10” holes cut in it to extinguish fires. Any holes cut in hood for fire safety or exhaust may be bolted back together with no larger than 3/8” bolts. 4 bolts per hole max. Hood must open for inspection.
    hood:
    A. If bolted, a maximum of 6 bolts can be used, not to exceed 3/4” in diameter. Bolts may not go through the frame, except the front two as long as they pass through the front body mount. Mount may he removed on front two body mounts. Washers for hood bolts cannot exceed 5” x 5”. Washers may be welded to hood tin.
    B. Chains may he used, but must have 4 spots ol’3/8” must be used. Chain may not he welded.
    Note: You may use any one of the hood fastening methods above if you choose, but use one only. You may not use any combination of the above. No angle iron or wire may be used.
  5. Hoods may not be slid forward or backwards, but you may bend excess length down in the front. Trunks may be tucked. but 60% must be in stock location. Trunk may not he welded to trunk floor. You may pre-form or pre-bend your body tin. You may cut it to shape it but you may not reweld any part of it.
  6. Radiator is to be in stock location with no water barrels or auxiliary cooling allowed. If transmission cooler is used, lines must be covered using air line hose, garden hose. etc. Engine oil coolers are allowed also. Lines and coolers are recommended to be covered to keep hot oil from spraying the driver. Electric fans are allowed. Aluminum radiators are also allowed.
  7. No welding of anything to the frame, except as specifically allowed by these rules. You may cut the frame, but you may not reweld any place you cut it. No re-welding of factory seams, except on the top of the frame from the A-frame forward and bottom of the frame from the front edge of the lower control arm forward, not to exceed 1/2” wide. Engine and transmission mounts may be welded, as long as it does not strategically reinforce the frame. No engine braces, cables, or chains may extend more than 4” in front of or behind engine block.
  8. Trailer hitches must be removed completely.
  9. Body mounts bolts can be replaced with up to 5/8” bolts, body mounts can be replaced with steel or washers but must be the same thickness and have the same diameter. If you use a longer bolt and it enters interior, you may place a maximum of 4” diameter washer inside. Washer under frame must still be in stock location but may be up to 2 inches larger than frame hole diameter. You may weld spacers to body but not to the frame. Radiator support mounts may be removed completely and replaced with 3/4” diameter bolt maximum. The support tin may be sucked down to the frame
  10. Suspension: It must be working and have at least 2” of travel. No more than 9 leaf springs per side, no more than 3/8” thick leaves. Must stagger down to bottom spring (i.e., all springs cannot be the same length as the main leaf) 4 leaf spring clamps per side. Max size is 2” wide by 5” long by ½” thick. Coil springs may be wired or welded in, on top OR bottom. Only one place is allowed. No chain, wire, cable or similar methods to tie rear end to frame or body. You may interchange front spindles to improve braking. You may change upper control arm. but not lower control arms. They may not be altered and must be OEM car, not truck. You may not reinforce your steering components, except the steering column. Front suspension may not he reinforced. Car must have some type of working brakes. No leafs under non-leaf cars.
  11. You may lengthen rear control arms. Rear ends may be interchanged, but must not be floater rear-end nor may it have more than a 5 bolt pattern. Rear end braces are allowed.
  12. Bumpers may be interchanged from car to car. Bumpers may be welded, chained, bolted, but use only one method of attaching it. Bumpers may he welded to bracket, and the bracket to the frame, or brackets may be removed and bumper may be welded directly to frame with no foreign material allowed. You may flip the bumper upside down if you wish. Imperials may not have 5 MPH bumpers on them unless that body style came with them from the factory, and if so, must be the factory imperial bumper for that year. (example: 1975 Imperials came with a 5 mph bumper, so that is legal, as long as it is the factory 1975 Imperial bumper.) Bumpers must be smooth on the edges to prevent spearing other cars. Bumpers may have seams rewelded, chrome may be smashed down and welded to the inner casing, but no material may he added.
  13. Windshield must have at least 2 windshield straps. It may go from sheet metal to sheet metal only, it may not go around or to the frame or subframe.
  14. You can patch rust holes in sheet metal with sheet metal only. Do not cut rust out: weld 2 inches beyond rust. Patches must be same thickness of factory material. Same goes for tears on used cars, but you must cut out damaged area before adding new metal.. If the frame metal is torn, it may be welded with no foreign material. You cannot cut the frame, bend it, and weld it back together unless it is a used car. Nothing may be added to the exterior of the doors (including pipes, grader blades, I — beam etc.,) however, a thicker door skin is allowed on the drivers door only, as long as it conforms to original body lines and does not go 2” past the door seam. 1/8” maximum thick material.

Interior

  1. A bar behind the seat extending from door post to door post is required. Plates on the end of the bars are required and must be a minimum of 6”x6” and a maximum of 12”x12”. You do not need end plates if your front and rear dash bars are connected along the sides. You may also have a bar in place of the dash if you remove the dash. Dash bar and rear bar may be tied together inside either door. Bars that tie front and rear may he against inner door skin. Cage may not extend in front of dash area or behind rear bar. Halo bars are allowed, as are post additions on the driver’s side of hardtop cars. No grader blades or other material allowed on the exterior, except thicker door skin as stated above. No bars or kickers may go down to the frame, except down brace to behind driver’s seat. You may place a bar horizontally along the lower part of the driver’s door for safety only.
  2. Stock gas tanks must be removed. Do not reuse the stock tank, and do not use a gas can for a tank. A boat tank is recommended, but any container deemed safe by the officials is acceptable. Tank must be covered and securely fastened to the floor or frame — no tarp straps, wire. bungee straps, etc. It must be safe. Metal tanks must be used, but if a plastic tank is used it must be encased in metal.
  3. Battery must be removed from stock location and put inside on passenger floor and securely fastened to the floor and covered
  4. No welding to the interior of the car, except for interior door bars or safety cage. (welding battery trays, fuel tank brackets, safety items, etc. is allowed also) Bottom of door pillars may be welded to the floor pan.
  5. Any high temperature lines such as oil cooler must be covered with air line, garden hose, etc. to prevent hot oil from ruptured lines spraying driver.
  6. Columns may be altered to prevent loss of steering
  7. Remove or loosely fasten rear decking in wagons. It may not be bolted or chained tightly or welded. Must have inspection hole in it for judges to look inside.
  8. Tow package cars are allowed, if the tow car package was factory on that car.
  9. You may run wire from frame rail to frame rail underneath back of car, behind rearend with 4 loops of wire or I loop of 3/8” chain/cable.

4 CYL RULES

  1. All Safety and car rules above apply.
  2. All 4 Cyl may have up to 106-inch wheel base. (no shorting of frames)
  3. If it came from the factor with a 4 Cyl option you may run it, but must
    have 4 Cyl motor in to run. For example: Pinto, Fairmont, And most front wheel drive
    cars. NO 4X4, AMC PACERS OR FULL FRAME CARS.
  4. No support on the outside of the car, except for driver door. (see rule #14 above)
